Lents International Farmers Market (LIFM) is held every Sunday from 11am - 4pm, June 16th - October 27th, 2013. Located at the corner of SE 92nd & Foster Road in the heart of Lents Town Center, this will be our 7th season running a lively neighborhood market in East Portland.
Portland's only internationally focused market, LIFM provides fresh, affordable, and culturally unique produce to the diverse Lents community and offers farm-direct sales opportunities for immigrant, emerging farmers, and new business owners. This year we will have an amazing variety of fresh produce from our vendors, including unique varieties from our Hmong, Latino, & Russian farmers.
LIFM has a number of great programs at the market. Healthy Rewards is our nutrition incentive program for SNAP participants. We match up to the first $10 in SNAP purchases each week. Our Community Table is a place for home gardeners to bring and sell extra produce. This year we are launching Food Scouts, a new program for youth ages 5-12 and their families. Our market also features weekly cooking demonstrations, live music, and special events focused on community, food, and health. Please join us at the market on Sundays!
In 1999, a small group of Lents residents and community organizations that wanted a positive place in their neighborhood began the Lents Community Market. The market participated in the Oregon Health Department’s WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Programs, which represented up to 80% of market sales, indicating that the market successfully served low-income shoppers.
Beginning in the Spring of 2005, Friends of Zenger Farm started hosting monthly meetings with residents interested in working to re-start the market. This group later developed into what is now the Lents Food Group - a community group working to improve healthy food choices in Lents. In 2006 we ran a successful 3 market pilot season.
Through funding from the Northwest Health Foundation, the Lents Food Group in conjunction with Friends of Zenger Farm ran its first full 20 market season in 2007. Now celebrating its 7th birthday in 2013, the market is bigger and better than ever with more than 20 weekly vendors selling everything from fresh-caught and smoked seafood, to Thai food, to the freshest seasonal produce you can find! The market focuses on highlighting the diversity of the East Portland neighborhoods and is proud to provide healthy food access and education to the community.
