Welcome to Zenger Farm

We are a working urban farm that models, promotes and educates about sustainable food systems, environmental stewardship, community development and access to good food for all.

Community Livestock Project

Once a family-run dairy, Zenger Farm began re-introducing small animals onto the land in 2007 with the help of neighbors and community members.  Today, there are chickens, turkeys, bees, and worms on the farm busily laying eggs, growing big, making honey, and churning out compost.  By creating more direct opportunities for shared ownership of Zenger Farm, these community livestock groups aim to diversify farm income and increase educational opportunities.  Additionally, the Livestock Project strives to increase food access and educational opportunities for low income youth, families and farmers.

Eastside Egg Cooperative

The Laying Hens at Zenger Farm are managed by the Eastside Egg Cooperative, a group of folks who share in the caretaking of the flock and the bounty of the eggs. The hens rotate through the farm fields in their mobile coop, munching on weeds and bugs, and fertilizing the soil as they go. To view photos of the girls in action, check out the Co-op's Flickr page.

For more information about the Eastside Egg Cooperative, or to to become a member, contact Sara Cogan at sara@zengerfarm.org.

For urban poultry enthusiasts, the EEC has compiled a list of helpful chicken-keeping resources.

Community Bee Project

The community group managing the hives at Zenger Farm meets the last Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Zenger Farmhouse. Meetings often include an educational component along with planning care for the hives. A great way to get involved is to attend the next meeting.

If you are interested in presenting at a meeting please download the Bee Project Presenter Questioinare (PDF). Return the form to Matt Reed at matt@beethinking.com

The group also has a listserve you can join by sending an e-mail to list-request@zengerbees.org and in the subject line of your email type SUBSCRIBE.
